Automation Engineer

Job Description:

Location: Charlestown, New Hampshire

Automation Engineer II – Mechanical Focus
Creates, designs, tests, and oversees the development of new automation systems, while troubleshooting and maintaining existing systems. This role will have a strong emphasis on mechanical automation, including the design, fabrication, and build-out of custom automated systems and fixtures.

Responsibilities:

Designs and builds custom automation systems, mechanical assemblies, and production equipment from concept through completion.
Owns mechanical fixture design, including jigs, tooling, and complex mechanical components.
Manages and oversees the construction of automation projects, ensuring designs are executed accurately and efficiently.
Sees mechanical designs through from beginning to end — concept, CAD modeling, prototyping, fabrication, assembly, testing, and final integration.
Performs hands-on metal fabrication, including machining, welding (if applicable), cutting, and finishing.
Operates and programs 3-axis CNC mills and CNC lathes for machining of precision components.
Creates detailed mechanical drawings, schematics, and work instructions for assemblies and systems.

Desired Background/Skills:

Education & Experience

BA/BS degree with 3–6+ years of experience, or
MA/MS degree with 0–3+ years of experience, or
AA/AS/Technical School with 4–8+ years of experience.

Preferred Mechanical Automation Background

Experience in the design and manufacture of automated mechanical systems.
Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks required).
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, hand tools, and system build-outs.
Experience with CNC machining (3-axis mills and lathes), CAM programming, and general fabrication.
Welding and metal fabrication experience preferred.
Basic quality inspection and measurement tools proficiency required.
Project management experience beneficial but not required.
