Automation Engineering Technician

Job Description:

Location: Slatersville, Rhode Island

CoWorx Staffing Services is seeking an Automation Engineering Technician in the Slatersville, RI area. We are seeking an experienced Automation Technician III to support installation, setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems in a high-speed injection molding environment. This is a senior-level, hands-on role requiring strong expertise in robotics, PLCs, and automated production equipment, as well as the ability to mentor junior technicians.

Responsibilities:

  • Install and configure automation equipment to meet engineering and production requirements.
  • Perform setup and changeovers for robotics and automation cells across multiple product lines.
  • Train junior technicians on equipment setup and changeover procedures.
  • Ensure systems operate efficiently and meet production expectations.
  • Troubleshoot automation systems and perform maintenance to ensure optimal performance.

Diagnose and repair issues with:

  • Experience working with robotics and automated systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, including basic troubleshooting and program upload/download.
  • Understanding of electrical and control systems, including inputs/outputs, wiring, and components.
  • Ability to use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, electrical testers, and thermal devices.
  • Support vision systems through basic adjustments and programming changes.
  • Recommend improvements to automation processes and equipment.

Perform basic fabrication using:

  • Experience operating mills, lathes, grinders, saws, and various hand tools.
  • Support setup and adjustment of vibratory bowl feeders and part handling systems.
  • Guide junior technicians on mechanical repairs and fabrication techniques.

Training and Leadership:

  • Mentor and guide junior automation technicians.
  • Provide instruction on troubleshooting methods.
  • Train on automation setup and operation.
  • Teach electrical and mechanical fundamentals.

Desired Background/Skills:

5+ years of experience in automation, robotics, or manufacturing Strong knowledge of:

  • Experience with PLC systems, including basic programming and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and diagnostics.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation equipment.
  • Experience in injection molding or high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and follow technical instructions and schematics.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor junior team members.
  • Experience in medical device or cGMP-regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with vision systems and automated inspection equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working on the production floor for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
